Volunteer Job Description

 

Advocate

 

 

Qualifications:

•  19 years of age or older.

•  Commitment to PAVSA's mission, core values and guiding principles.

•  Successful completion of the initial training program of 40 hours.

•  Successful completion of all background checks.

•  Commitment to PAVSA for one year.

•  If applicant has received services from PAVSA, a period of six months is recommended before

   volunteering as an advocate.

 

Responsibilities:

•  Work a minimum of on-call crisis line coverage one week per every 10-12 week period.

•  Serve as a representative of PAVSA with clients, their families, professionals, other service providers,

   schools, employers, consumer agencies and the general public.

•  Contact the office within 24-hours of responding to a crisis call where you have contact with the

   hospital, police or other outside professionals and to request follow up services.

•  Maintain contact with PAVSA regarding status as a volunteer, availability, and needs for training,

   information and support.

•  Attend monthly advocate meetings.

•  Attend a minimum of six hours in-service training each year to continue education regarding the issue

   and to maintain the Minnesota Center for Crime Victims Services (MCCVS) minimum standards.        

   PAVSA will provide training throughout the year. Other workshops or training may be approved in

   advance by staff to fulfill responsibility.

•  Complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
