Victim Support Services
Sexual Assault is NEVER the victim's fault!
PAVSA is committed to these core values when working with victims/survivors of sexual assault, their family and friends:
-
We provide services that are victim-centered and driven.
-
We see the service of providing respectful, nonjudgmental and confidential support as the foundation of our agency.
-
We believe all victims of sexual violence deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
-
We act as a liaison with other community services and support the choices victims make for themselves.
Services We Offer
Services which are offered to victims are:
- 24-Hour Crisis Line: The
crisis line offers support and information to callers. Often individuals
need someone to talk with about feelings following an assault or any
time after the assault has occurred. These feelings can be triggered
by nightmares or flashbacks.
- Hospital Advocacy: Advocates
are available to support victims when they seek medical assistance at
a hospital or clinic. If the victim chooses, they may have the advocate
in the room while talking with the doctor and/or nurses and during the
exam.
- Legal Advocacy: Advocates
are available to support victims if they choose to report to the police.
The advocate can arrange a meeting and remain in the room while the
police are taking the report. Advocates are also available to support
the victim during court proceedings.
- Support Advocacy: Victims
can request to work with an advocate who can give support and information.
Advocates also work with family members and friends.
-
Counseling: A licensed professional
counselor is available for free. Appointments can be made within a day or
two of a call.
