PAVSA is a non-profit agency serving victims and survivors of sexual assault, their family and friends in Southern St. Louis County in Northern Minnesota. We are a small agency, employing five, full-time staff. The heart of the program is victim services. These are provided to individuals free of charge. Advocates and interns provide such services as crisis intervention through a 24-hour crisis line, hospital advocacy during medical exams, court advocacy during criminal hearings, and support advocacy. Community Education is also an important part of PAVSA. The Educator provides children, grades K-6 and preschoolers with the Safe and Strong Childİ Personal Body Safety Program, an interactive program which enables children to learn about their bodies and boundaries. Such programming has been suggested to improve children's understanding about boundaries and sexual assault, and gives them tools to utilize if it happens to them. Interns typically take part in one or both of these programs. It is our requirement that all interns complete a 40 hour training before working 1:1 with victims. This training can be completed during or before the internship. Once the training is completed, interns must help with crisis intervention during 1/3 of their internship. Additional hours can be spent in research, education, programming or volunteer management. PAVSA will assist interns in locating housing and transportation. We also assist with visas if necessary and have hosted three international interns since 1994. Contact UsEmail us at: pavsa@pavsa.org
